Gaming with a cheap six cores and six threads Intel processor
Intel i5 9400f is one of the most affordable processors with six core and six threads from Team Blue. The company cut off hyperthreading from their mainstream CPUs but you don’t have to worry about that because these extra cores are enough to max out any application. Intel i5 9400f is a refreshed version of 8400 with 100Mhz clock boost. We had compiled a list of some of the best motherboard for i5 9400f which you can consider in 2020.
AMD is successful with their Ryzen processors because of low price but this one gives you the same performance for the same price. This CPU can be used in any build ranging from $500 or less. The launch price of i5 9400f was quite high but these days you can get it for $150 depending upon your region.
As I said earlier this processor comes with six cores and threads which are enough for modern games. Also, it outperforms in single-core applications as well as multi-core too. If you pair this processor with some good motherboard you can get a performance boost in games.
Most of the latest Intel CPUs lack stock cooler but that’s not the case with this processor. Intel i5 9400f comes with a stock cooler which works well with it as we don’t need to overclock this processor. The base clock of this processor is 2.9Ghz but you can easily take it up to 4.3Ghz with any Z390 series motherboard.
Comparing it with AMD series, the performance of this CPU is similar to AMD Ryzen 5 2600, as both are mainstream processors. The in-game performance of Inte i5 9400f is slightly better than R5 2600 but for multi-core applications Ryzen outperforms. There is not much difference between the price and performance of these processors. Pairing it with some good graphics cards can give you reasonable frame rates in the latest AAA titles.
There is a varient of this processor with integrated graphics card, however these f series CPUs don’t comes with iGPU and are slightly cheaper. The non-f version comes with Intel HD 630 and is about 20-25% expensive than this but if you are buying dedicated GPU with it, you are good to go with f version.
